Annual Gourmet S'mores Campfire Cookoff at Brookside Nature Center

Marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers are just the beginning of this sweet family event! Join us for an evening of s’mores, music, and intense s’mores competition. Campfires are lit at 5 pm and attendees are welcome to BYO dinner to cook-on-a-stick. After dinner, you can roast marshmallows and join us in a sing-a-long ’round the campfire: S’mores Competition: Judging is based on taste, appearance and creativity. Basic ingredients are provided with your registration fee. You provide additional gourmet add-ins. There will be three top prizes for little s’mores makers and three prizes for adult s’mores chefs. Everyone 3 years – 99 years must register to attend but there’s no additional fee to participate in the competition. Registration is limited to a maximum of 100 participants so register early! The event concludes at 8 pm with s’mores judging and prizes awarded. Rain Date: October 19th

Kites over Clarksburg

Join Bread & Beauty at the 11th Annual Kites Over Clarksburg - a FREE family fun day. Bring canned food items, used eye glasses and hearing aids to donate to local charities and receive a raffle ticket to enter and win prizes from local sponsors. Fly Kites - buy or bring your own (glass kite strings forbidden), bring your own picnic or boxed lunch. There will be kids art projects and games, and local businesses, clubs and associations. Sourdough Bread for the Home Baker with Chef Michael Carignan --Sold Out!

In this introduction to sourdough bread-making, Chef Carignan will demonstrate the fundamentals of making sourdough bread in your home kitchen. Participants will learn the chemistry and process of creating and maintaining a starter, using it to leaven a loaf, and shaping and baking the loaf. Participants will also learn some sourdough history, and bring home a jar of starter with instructions to use it, along with a hunk of sourdough bread. We’ll also enjoy finished bread in class, served with soup from local produce, and local wine. RSVP here (space is limited).
